  • "Seems sensible to me! Yes, there's countries and cities in a worse state, but that's no reason to do nothing! And saving carbon means saving money so there's definitely a mutual interest as far as I'm concerned. I don't see what harm it can do. Also, each council has carbon emission targets - ignoring them means we'll get fined so we'll waste much more money along the way if we do naff all."

Have your say on climate change

RESIDENTS and businesses in York will be able to have their say on how the city can tackle the climate change issue over the summer.

The city is aiming to cut its CO2 emissions by 40 per cent over the next decade and double that reduction by 2050, with the debate now set to be opened up to the public by City of York Council.

Together with the local strategic partnership Without Walls, the authority has created two documents looking at the city’s ambitions to deal with climate change and how it can achieve its aims, with people being invited to give their views on the proposals in the Climate Change Framework and Climate Change Action Plan from next month.

Among the areas the documents focus on are sustainable homes and buildings, energy use, waste management and transport, as well as how to live low-carbon lifestyles and the way York’s infrastructure, services, homes and businesses will have to adapt to the shifting climate.

Opinions, which will be used to shape the final framework and action plan before they come into force in autumn, can be aired by logging on to www.york.gov.uk/consultation/
