A YORK primary school has won a national award for the way it teaches personal finance to its pupils.
The awards, organised by Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), said students and teachers at Osbaldwick Primary School had brought personal finance education “to life in a number of ways.”
Christine Borrett, Year 5 teacher at Osbaldwick, said: “I’m really proud of the way PFE has grown at our school – what started off as a small seed six years ago has now grown to be something that all the young people are involved in and passionate about.
“Finance Education is something that’s vitally important to give young people a head start in becoming money wise – and it’s good to be recognised for our efforts in developing this financial awareness.”
Osbaldwick pupils have been managing a stationery shop each lunchtime and making decisions on how to spend profits. Sharon McDowall, head of community investment at RBS, said: “This year, with a staggering 89 per cent uplift in entries from last year, we have been impressed by the exceptionally high standard of entries as well as the innovative approaches taken to teaching PFE.”
