CHILDREN from Alne Primary School helped reduce congestion in their North Yorkshire village by becoming a Giant Walking Bus.

The youngsters walked to school yesterday as hundreds of other children from across the country took part in a Giant Walking Bus world record attempt, organised by road safety charity Brake.

At Alne, parents dropped their children off at the top end of the village and they all walked to school together, accompanied by parents.

Head teacher Paul Platt said the school had been doing the Giant Walking Bus for three years now and it picked up between 15 and 20 children everyday.
