YORK Tackle’s Tim Bell kept up his great recent run of form at Langwith Lakes with a weekend one-two at the Heslington complex in York.

His weekend started in some style as he romped home in the 36-peg Gerald Leslie Memorial contest fished on Kevin’s and Bethany’s Lakes, as reported in The Press yesterday.

Offering pellet tight to the island from peg 26 on Bethany’s he found carp to 3lb from start to finish to end the day with 120lb 8oz bulging in his net.

The following day he had to settle for the runners-up berth in the Sunday open fished on Anya’s and Emma’s.

Pole and pellet did the business again as he pole fished his way to 75lb 12oz.

Another in-form angler, Pip Snaith, of York Tackle, had the edge in the 38-pegger from Emma’s 20, where the standard pellet across ploy brought 77lb 2oz of carp to 3lb.

The latest York match at the Laybourne complex saw Neil Martin, Sensas Wibsey, top the 25-pegger on Marley from peg 50 on the island.

Offering double 4mm pellets at 13 metres he netted carp to 5lb in a 74lb 12oz winning net.

Pete Webster took second from peg 14 where pellet was also the key to his 52lb 12oz bag.

The penultimate leg of the Bob-Co Spring Series at Carpvale saw Gary Watson take the homours from peg 18 on Cyprio.

Offering pellets and a variety of floating baits at 18 metres, he netted 31 carp for a 91lb 12oz finish.

His nearest challenger was Wayne Westmoreland, who used pellet at 13 metres from peg four for 25 carp and 70lb 8oz.

Earlier in the week an excellent crowd of 33 gathered at the same venue for the latest veterans’ event.

Pete Webster was on top form again taking the under-70s category with 38lb 2oz. Vic Rookes took second with 30lb 4oz ahead of Mick Wood, who netted 29lb 6oz.

The over-70s section belonged to Pete Lowson with his 22lb 12oz bag that saw off the challenges of Dave Findlay, who had 16lb 4oz, and Barry Richardson, who netted a level 16lb.

Tickets are on sale for the first match of the new season when the annual junior event takes place on New Walk Terrace.

Entry is open to all, not just Amalgamation members, and parents are welcome to come along and provide advice and support.

There can’t be many pegs on Pond Four at Oaktree Leisure that Steve Hodson hasn’t fished and once again he made his experience tell as he scored a runaway win from peg 55.

Using meat at ten-metre, Hodson encountered carp to 6lb as he progressed to a 95lb 12oz total.

Roger Summerscales was the best of the rest with an even 63lb of carp taken on pellet and meat from the eight-metre line at peg 47.

Denis White rolled back the years to top the weekend’s biggest event in the north east on the Selby Canal.

Now fishing under the Dick Clegg Barnsley banner, the former England star took the opening round of the well attended 104-pegger from peg two on the Fire Station section in Selby.

Clegg bagged five tench to over 5lb on pole with worm and caster at ten metres for a 15-5-0 finish.

Russ Smith led his Hull DAA side to an opening round team victory from the other end of the same section, where pole and worm found a handful of tench plus eels and perch for his 14-7-8.

The previous day may have only been a practice event, but the warm-up saw 94 basking in 25 degree temperatures.

The result proved to be a great pointer to the main event with Pete Turner, of Team Normanton, taking the honours from peg seven on the prolific Fire Station section with 23-7-0 of tench and eels on worm.
