We continue to be baffled by Susan Wade Weeks’s assertion about the number of benefit inquiries made annually to York CAB (The Press, May 13).
But we feel complimented and appreciative, too.
All publicity for us is good publicity, they say; while the suggestion that such vast numbers of people cross our threshold only emphasises what an essential service we are seen to provide. York citizens who use our services receive advice on welfare benefits and employment, but also on debt, housing, consumer problems and family difficulties, too. We know, from the smiles of relief, thanks and letters of appreciation how important our services are, even if there aren’t as many people being assisted as Mrs Wade Weeks suggested (or as many as we would like).
