Julian Sturdy has been elected for the Conservatives in York Outer.

The hotly-contested new seat, created following boundary changes, was third in the Tories' national target list and the outcome saw Mr Sturdy win with a majority of almost 3,700.

He polled 22,912 votes, with Liberal Democrat Madeleine Kirk coming second with 19,224. Labour's James Alexander got 9,108. Judith Morris of UKIP polled 1,100 and the BNP candidate Cathy Smurthwaite got 956.
