Woman killed after being hit by a train in Flaxton, North Yorkshire

Updated: A WOMAN died after being struck by a train at a level crossing in North Yorkshire.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the woman was hit by a First TransPennine Express train travelling from Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough.

The incident happened at the Cross Lane level crossing, Flaxton, at 12.45pm and involved the 12.38pm train from York.

The crossing is rarely used by anyone but walkers, although vehicles can use it to cross the line.

All trains between York and Malton were suspended.

The railway line remained closed until shortly after 2.20pm.

Trains using the route continued to experience delays into the afternoon.

A BTP spokesman said: “The driver put on the emergency brakes, but couldn’t avoid striking the person.

“It was an individual act with no one else involved and we are treating it as non-suspicious.”

No one on board the train was injured.
