THE opening of an inquest into the death of Mandy Bishop heard she is believed to have died from drowning.

The inquest into the 34-year-old’s death was opened and adjourned by York coroner Donald Coverdale at New Earswick Folk Hall this afternoon.

Mr Coverdale said that pathologist Dr Nigel Cooper had supplied a “provisional cause of death as being consistent with drowning”.

He adjourned the inquest until a date still to be set.

The body of Miss Bishop, of Bishopgate Street, was found last Friday in the River Ouse. She was reported missing on April 3 but had not been seen for two weeks prior to that.

The agoraphobic, who was the sole carer for her cancer-stricken mother Valerie, was found by police divers after a week-long search.
