Malton & Norton RUFC Under-13s were the winners of Pocklington RUFC’s Annual Junior Charity 7s Festival, writes Gavin Wilson.
The festival featured 19 teams from U13s to U15s and Malton topped the U13s after seeing off competition from Pocklington, Beverley, Bridlington and Ripon.
Malton defeated Beverley 15-0 in the first semi-final, and Ripon ‘B’ won the second semi-final 20-5 against Ripon ‘A’.
In a keenly contested final, Malton avenged an earlier pool defeat by beating Ripon ‘B’ 10-0.
Teams from Pocklington, Goole, Harrogate, Hull Ionians and Old Brodleians made up the U14s event. Leading contenders Pocklington and Old Brodleians drew their encounter 15-15, but in the end Old Brodleians won their final game to take the trophy.
York were beaten 25-10 by Tynedale in the final of the U15s event.
York drew 20-20 with Malton in the semis, but reached the final on countback, while Tynedale edged out Pocklington 15-10.
