HUNDREDS of choristers from across York will come together this summer to perform music specially written for the city.
As part of York 800 celebrations, a huge community choir called Ebor Vox will perform over the Charter weekend, between Saturday, July 7, and Monday, July 9.
The event will include a new piece specially composed for York 800 by composer Benjamin Till, who created the BBC’s Symphony For Yorkshire in 2010. People can submit their own poems, which the composer will use to create the piece.
Other events will include performances along the River Ouse, as part of the flotilla of hundreds of boats on Saturday, July 7, and at the Eye of York on the evening of Monday July 9, with an array of choirs in shops, cafes and streets over the weekend. A competition has been launched for York residents to write poems of no more than 400 words, with the theme of what is special about York.
To enter the competition, which runs until midnight on Monday March 5, send your entry by email to york800@york.gov.uk or by post to York 800, c/o Arts & Culture, 18 Back Swinegate, York, YO1 8ZD.
