York 800: Chocolate heritage York 800: Chocolate heritage

Once known as the “Chocolate City”, York has long been at the heart of the chocolate and confectionery industry.

York Chocolate Festival will celebrate the chocolate heritage that is fondly remembered whilst showcasing the skills and talents of chocolate makers, chocolatiers, scientists, historians and chocolate lovers who still work with chocolate in the city today.

From Friday 6th - Monday 9th April, chocolate will be celebrated at locations throughout the city. The Chocolate Market in Parliament Street will offer a whole range of delicacies made with chocolate by local chocolatiers, chocolate makers and chocolate lovers.

A programme of talks and discussions will look at the products that made Terry’s, Rowntrees and Cravens household names, as well as looking at the philanthropy, science and technology behind the brands. And of course there will be lots of opportunities to sample and indulge in chocolate!
