York 800: Get involved in Ebor Vox!

York 800: Get involved in Ebor Vox! York 800: Get involved in Ebor Vox!

Ebor Vox, one of the key highlights of York 800, will be a truly ambitious community event for York, bringing together hundreds of York residents in joyous song.

Acclaimed composer Benjamin Till will weave stories and poems about York into a new piece of choral music for the city, celebrating who we are and our city’s achievements and people over the past 800 years.

In 2010 Benjamin composed the fantastic Symphony for Yorkshire, which was a rich and colourful ride through the region, featured on the BBC. Now he focuses in on the former capital of the North and uncovers York’s history of innovation, creativity, strength and compassion.

Ebor Vox will feature three key performances: firstly, a choir floating up the river as part of the 2012 Charter Weekend Flotilla on Saturday 7 July; secondly, a wonderful array of choirs springing up in shops, cafés and streets over the Charter weekend; and lastly a spectacular performance at The Eye of York involving hundreds of performers on Charter Day itself, Monday 9 July.

Ebor Vox Director Stephen Burke added : “Ebor Vox is a celebration of our community. We intend to bring together in simultaneous song all of the hundreds of voices who sing in our city’s choirs week in week out. Over three days, our choirs will sing together, alone and in a wide range of breathtaking and unusual locations across our beautiful and historic city.

“We’ll incorporate dance, carnival dance and costume to celebrate our past, present and future”.

Organisers are still looking for more local choirs to get involved in Ebor Vox.
