York 800: Crossing borders with the York Early Music Festival York 800: Crossing borders with the York Early Music Festival

This year’s York Early Music Festival, from 6-14 July, will reflect the Olympic ideals of excellence and aspiration, with a focus on music from the Renaissance.

It will reflect a period when new styles and ideas crossed European borders to create a newly connected musical world, and when missionaries and adventurers journey-ed from Spain to South America – echoed by the 21st century Olympic journey from London to Brazil.

The festival will feature events staged in some of Yorkshire’s most beautiful venues, including the Minster, Harewood House and the National Centre for Early Music in Walmgate.

Full details and tickets will be available in the spring – booking opens on 19 March.
