POLICE investigating the disappearance of a York woman who has not been seen for more than two weeks are trying to build up a picture of her movements over the past month.

Mandy Bishop, who lives in the Skeldergate area of the city, was reported missing on Saturday afternoon after her friend raised the alarm, leading to a UK-wide appeal for information being sent out in a bid to trace her.

North Yorkshire Police officers were yesterday continuing to carry out door-to-door enquiries in the area around her home in Bishopgate Street, where the 34-year-old lived with her mother, and are liaising with colleagues across the country to see if anybody matching her description has come to their attention.

The force is now asking anybody who has had contact with Mandy since the beginning of March to come forward as they search for clues about what has happened to her. She was last seen on March 22.

Inspector Shaun Sutcliffe, of York Police, said her vanishing was “completely out of character”, which had heightened concerns for her safety.

“We have issued a UK-wide appeal on the police national computer to check if any police forces around the country have come into contact with a woman matching Mandy’s description,” he said.

“If anybody in York has information which could assist the search for Mandy, please contact North Yorkshire Police as a matter of urgency.”

The reasons for the gap between the last-known sighting of Mandy and her disappearance – just two weeks after the first anniversary of that of missing York chef Claudia Lawrence – being reported to police are not yet known, and no picture of her has yet been released.

She is white, with green eyes, about 5ft 4in tall and of slim build, with dark brown, shoulder-length curly hair.

She usually wears trousers and a jumper with a black or red coat.

Anybody with information about Mandy’s disappearance or who has seen her over the last month should phone North Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060 247.
