CITY of York Council leader Steve Galloway seems confused in his comments (Barbican 'Bargain' Pressure Mounting, April 25) regarding the Labour group's demand for the council to undertake a full scrutiny of his Barbican "bargain-basement sale" fiasco.

It was his own chosen occupant of a chair for the council's scrutiny

function, a member of his own group, who suggested at the last full council meeting that a formal request for such a scrutiny be submitted to her committee. Perhaps he doesn't listen even to his own group members.

Incidentally, it was the first shameful act of his administration to change the council constitution to allow a member of his own Lib Dem group to take the chair of scrutiny.

Since then, he has shown he has no wish for his executive to be held to account by the council as a whole - let alone the public of the city as a whole!

Coun Sandy Fraser,

Micklegate Ward (Labour),

Millfield Road,
