YORK Indoor Bowls Ladies advanced to the Yetton Trophy zone final where they will meet Cumbria after beating Scarborough 84-53 on aggregate.

The Seasiders were nip and tuck until a blitz of 23 York shots over the last three ends put the tie beyond reach.

At Thanet Road, Linda Harrison's rink never looked back after winning eight of the first nine ends to lead 14-1 en route to a 24-12 triumph. Helen Walker's rink struggled for most of their game, trailing 14-11 with four ends to play before an excellent finish sealed a 25-14 success.

At Scarborough, Carol Instone only led 11-9 with five ends to play, but again won them all to record a convincing 23-9 victory. Melanie Brooke's rink got off to a reasonable start leading 4-2 after six ends but then dropped 11 shots over the next five ends to eventually lose 18-12.

But York's fortune dipped in the Egham Trophy, the national mixed fours club competition, in which York unexpectedly lost 81-71 to Barnsley after being ahead 69-67 with three ends to play.

At home, Mark Clarke's rink came from 12-9 down with eight ends to play to win 18-15, but David Stroughair's team threw away a good opportunity. They led 11-0 and 15-13, but lost the last six ends to perish 22-15.

At Barnsley, Paul Mooring's four dropped 19 shots in the second half of their game to lose 29-11, but Michael Bruce continued his good form, his team coasting to an excellent 27-15 win.

York got back to winning ways in the Yorkshire League topping Metrodome 83-73 to collect 14 points.

At home, Paul Mooring's rink briefly let a 16-6 lead slip to 16-13, but they stepped up a gear to win five of the last six ends to win 24-7. Graham Brooke's team fell to a 26-13 loss after leading 11-6 lead at the mid-point.

Phil Emmerson's four did the damage in the first 12 ends to lead 19-10 at Barnsley on the way to a 26-17 win, boosted by Mark Clarke's team triumphing 20-13.

Second division leaders New Earswick crashed to a shock 90-69 defeat to Scarborough losing all but one rink, that of Paul Dawson, who won the last two ends to clinch a 23-21 conquest. The other away rink of Barry Johnson went from 6-4 ahead to 22-6 down in the space of six ends before losing 27-14 loss.

At home, Bob Edwards' team dropped six shots over the last two ends to go down 25-18, while Ken Harrison's lost 17-14.

Repelling the Cave women

York Ladies finally fulfilled their potential in the North Eastern League as they beat North Cave 97-67.

Joyce Gee's team had a fantastic 31-9 home win only losing five ends. Margaret Smith's side also had a comfortable victory winning 25-19.

At Cave, Pat Bracken's four were never threatened, winning 23-15. The only defeat was for Kath Pepper's rink whose 16-13 lead was wiped out to lose 24-18.
