Selby Town produced a storming recovery to beat Sutton Town 4-3 in a remarkable Northern Counties East League Cup second round tie at Flaxley Road.

The Robins appeared to be dead and buried as Craig Mitchell (2) and Danny Short powered the Nottinghamshire side 3-0 up.

Selby boss Bob Lyon made three half-time substitutions and it did the trick as they came roaring back.

Andy Hart's 35-yard free-kick reduced the arrears before Joe Connor's 30-yarder gave Selby genuine hope.

But when Kevin Graham was stretchered off that seemed to be the end of the Selby revival. But the Robins dug in courageously and forced extra time when Hart whistled in a 25-yard free-kick.

The match took another twist in extra time when Sutton were also reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Ian Brown and Selby pushed on to get a 115th-minute winner.

Stuart Lee was tripped in the box and Hart stepped up to fire in the spotkick to complete his hat-trick and send Selby into round two.

There was also a dismissal at Tadcaster Albion who were unluckily eliminated by premier division Maltby Main.

Tad dominated for long periods and went ahead on the half hour with a Mark Brady penalty after Steve Ward was fouled in the area,

Maltby equalised through Scott Somerville and snatched the winner when Albion goalkeeper Tom Ryder was sent off for a trip and Main's Chris Dickman netted from the spot. Despite playing the last 25 minutes with ten men Tad put great pressure on the Main goal but the visitors' defence held out.

Pickering Town went through after a 2-1 win at Yorkshire Amateur. Rob Eeles gave the Pikes a 20th minute lead but Adam Ryder equalised shortly after the interval.

The tie appeared to be going in to extra time before Liam Salt grabbed the 75th minute winner.

Harrogate Railway also made it into the last 16 with a 3-1 win over Hallam thanks to goals by Graham Marchant (2) and Scott Jackson. Andy Wilson netted the Hallam goal and was denied a second by a superb save late on by Lee Ashforth.

Goole caretaker player-manager Nigel Danby looks like being in charge at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds until at least Christmas.

The Vikings are prepared to wait before naming their successor to the sacked Paul Marshall and Danby did his prospects no harm as Goole drew 1-1 in the FA Trophy second qualifying round at AFC Telford. Sub Jamie Jackson netted a late equaliser for Goole, who stage the replay tomorrow night.
