PROPERTY company The Helmsley Group of Pocklington has appointed Richard Couldwell to head up the company's lending and mortgage syndication division.

Helmsley's lending policy gives borrowers, such as property developers, access to short-term finance for residential and commercial projects. It is one of the few companies in the UK to provide 100 per cent finance towards the cost of a property development.

Mr Couldwell joins Helmsley from the East Midlands and South Yorkshire division of The Woolwich, where he has spent the past two years as an intermediary manager, dealing day-to-day with mortgage brokers and independent financial advisers. He previously spent 25 years with Barclays Bank, where for ten years he was a lending manager.

In his new role, he will be responsible for the sourcing, investigating, appraising and approving of all new loan applications received and will also be involved in the syndication of loans to investors.

He arrives as The Helmsley Group, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, boasts a £100 million property portfolio and an ever- expanding lending book and is behind some of York's key developments, such as Monks Cross North business park and Merchant Exchange, a mixed use development on the River Ouse.
