YORK RUFC's 40-2 Yorkshire One win against Keighley came at a price.

Leg injuries to both second row Rob Sparrow and scrum half Graham Smith have left the coaching staff at Clifton Park with worries ahead of next Saturday's Intermediate Cup match against Morley.

Although York won at a canter, fastidious refereeing resulted in a game that lacked much continuity.

York conceded five penalties in the first ten minutes but weathered the storm and almost scored on their first venture into the Keighley half.

Centre Nick Ventress, taking the ball at pace, broke through on the halfway line but delayed his pass to Sam Arkle when the first try was there for the taking.

The deadlock was broken when Carl Paterson kicked a penalty following a Keighley infringement.

Keighley launched an attack almost from the restart and only the pace of Rob Kama saved a try when he got back to make a tackle on Matthew Cox.

Rob Kama was soon back in the action when turnover ball allowed skipper Andy Kay to make a break down the left wing and put Kama into space. As he was about to be tackled Kama threw a perfect pass out of the back of his hand for Graham Smith to score. Paterson converted.

After that it was all one-way traffic and by half time York led 25-0 with a try from Kama and a try, a penalty and a conversion from Paterson.

Shortly before half time Sparrow left the field on stretcher with what appeared to be a repeat of the ankle injury that kept him out for much of the latter part of last season.

York kept the scoreboard ticking over with a penalty from Paterson and a Stu Davies try which was converted by Paterson.

In a rare Keighley raid, diminutive scrum half James Tillotson took a quick penalty only to be tackled instinctively, but somewhat high, by Rob Allen, who was red-carded.

Although one man down, York continued to be on top but the fizz had gone out of the game and there was only one more York score, a close range Brad Macdonald try.

In the final minute, Keighley centre Nigel Curr dropped a consolation goal to deny York a second successive clean sheet following last week's cup shut-out at Altrincham Kersal.
