I WAS disgusted by the letter from Kristy Walton (August 28) who, in typically arrogant City of York Council fashion (remember the car parking disgrace) did not acknowledge any of the concerns previously expressed in your pages.

It is flawed logic for the council to assume that because my grey bin will only be collected fortnightly, this will reduce the amount of rubbish to be disposed of. It will simply make life more difficult for those of us who regularly have enough to fill the bin every week.

It is patronising to tell us to "reduce the amount of rubbish".

Most of what goes in the grey bin is plastic and cardboard packaging, created not by me, but by the manufacturers and suppliers of food and other household goods.

I shall continue to have exactly the same amount of this stuff as I do now. However, in future it appears I shall have to find somewhere else to dump the excess.

And what genius thought up the bright idea of collecting garden rubbish fortnightly during the winter? Most ordinary gardeners only cut their lawns and trim their hedges during the spring, autumn and summer, and weeds don't grow in the winter.

So we shall have the ludicrous sight of refuse lorries scouring the neighbourhood in winter looking for non-existent green bins when they could have made themselves useful emptying grey ones.
