Much has been published about the proposals to improve community facilities at the Memorial Hall site in Haxby.

At present the scheme proposed as the front runner was promoted at the recent Haxby Carnival and can be inspected at the local library.

This shows basic information and includes a greenhouse-like front elevation of glass totally out of character with the surrounding buildings in this conservation area.

Because there are many views on this urgently-required controversial issue I am sure the most satisfactory compromise to satisfy most interested parties would be to incorporate the old and the new.

Retain the Memorial Hall with its memorable features and dedications, correct the anachronisms and restore the original architectural concept, then build a new interlinked resource to make up the required facilities on the adequate area of land behind the existing hall.

This can still be carried out using the Huf building concept already proposed because the system can empathise with any constructional designs both traditional and modern.

I am sure a team of conservation architects and Huf designers could create a preliminary scheme to the trustees brief and display this for public comment.
