After their impressive 48-12 victory over Liverpool St Helen's in the Jewson's National League One last week it was Harrogate's turn to soak up the punishment on Saturday.

They plunged to a 50-3 defeat at Worcester recording their heaviest reverse of the season.

Harrogate's Dan Clappison opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a penalty but Worcester, with their eyes firmly fixed on a double, then took Harrogate apart with eight tries scored through left winger Nick Baxter (3), number eight Jim Janner, centre Duncan Hughes, flanker Hilton Jones and fly half Simon le Bas who also added the goal points.

The four front runners in North East Division Three - Redcar, Pocklington, Selby and Ripon - maintained the status quo although Redcar still await the result of their third appeal to Yorkshire, the North Division and Twickenham, over an unconfirmed registration of an 18- year-old player.

Second-placed in NE3, Pocklington took beat Bramley Phoenix 26-12.

Bramley had a prop sent off, allegedly for stamping, when they were 11-0 down but Pock made hard work of their numerical superiority.

After going close to scoring three times in the early stages No8 Mick Cox-Hill finally touched down a try from a five metre scrum, Gary Pearce taking the score to 11-0 with two penalty goals.

Bramley centre Andy Ellis and hooker Mark Jenner replied with tries, Kevin Hussey taking a 12-11 for the visitors with a penalty goal.

Replacement Graeme Hales' first involvement was a 50-yard run to put Ben Connolly over for a try which Pearce converted and then he added another penalty. Paul Gartside latched onto an 'up and under' to score a try in the last minute to seal the victory.

Third-placed Selby hung on to win 22-20 as Yarnbury's marksman Steve Galbraith missed two late long range penalties. Fly-half Galbraith scored all his side's points with two tries, two conversions and two penalties. Selby replied with tries through Wright Phillips, Craig Maxwell and Phil Redfearn. Carl Patterson kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Whitby beat NE3 visitors, Thornensians 16-0 after being 13 points up at half time.

Skipper Richard Harrison, scored a try that was converted by Dave Pike who added three penalties.

In Yorkshire One, inconsistent Malton and Norton built up a 10-5 interval lead to beat Moortown 49-19 at The Gannock.

Former Whitby prop Tom Eddie scored a hat-trick of tries with others touched down by Pat Stephenson (2), Steve Riddolls, Steve Hayhurst, Ed Gwilliam (all forwards) and Dave Woodhouse. Andy Newsome added two conversions.

Moortown replied with two goals and an unconverted try.

Third in Yorkshire One, Northallerton drew 22-22 with second-placed Castleford - the first draw in Yorkshire One this season - after turning around with the scores level on 8-8.

Jim Hunter, Josh Allerton and Gary Appleyard scored North's tries with Mick Robson kicking two conversions and a penalty.Castleford also replied with two goals, an unconverted try and a penalty.

Losing Tetley's Bitter Vase quarter-finalists Scarborough suffered their second consecutive defeat when they went down 24-17 at Barnsley where Andy Holloway scored a try and Jon Scarthe four penalties, the home side scoring a hat trick of tries through Mark Smith.

Wetherby crossed for 11 tries (Wayne Pawson and Billy Parsons scoring two each) hammering their Yorkshire Three visitors Hornsea 64-5 and gained ground in the league over their local rivals York RI who could only manage a 10-10 draw at Leeds Corinthians.

The Corinthians conceded a penalty try for collapsing a five-metre scrum. Tony Carr converted and adding a penalty in the first half, that ended with RI 10-7 in front.

Winger Nigel Foster scored a try for The Corinthians, Brian Kelly converted and added the equalising penalty.

Knaresborough beat Yorkshire Four visitors Marist 13-5 with fly-half Gary Gilmour scoring all their points - a goal and two penalties. Marist right winger Euen Ray scored their try.

Yorkshire Five third-placed side Nestle Rowntree beat home team Withernsea 27-11, touching down five tries in all through fly half Steve Varey (2), full back Sandy Suter, prop Mike Wilkinson and Dave Sowray.

In a re-arranged game Ship Inn Marauders beat York RI Extra A 14-6 scoring two goals to RI's two penalties.
