Eddie Vee: "I might win a lot of votes"

Elvis has been invited to take to the political stage as a loony.

York-based impersonator Eddie Vee, also known as Graham Cambridge, from Wenham Road, Foxwood, has been urged to join the Official Monster Raving Loony Party by its leader Howling Laud Hope - and stand as candidate for York.

And he is being told the change in career could help save his marriage after wife Jane told the star he couldn't sing and their partnership was over unless he dropped his alter-ego.

Laud Hope said: "I'm sure Jane would love to be married to a politician, and we are telling Eddie It's Now Or Never, join us and you won't be Lonesome Tonight.

"The party has always had an Elvis impersonator, but our last one has sadly passed away. We need a new one, and Eddie seems to have the perfect credentials."

Laud Hope, otherwise known as Alan Hope, was impressed by Eddie's belief that "If Elvis came to Yorkshire he would sound like me".

And he said his musical background would be perfect for the world of politics.

"Neil Kinnock was a frustrated rock 'n' roll singer with a love for Little Richard and Gene Vincent," he said.

"And Tony Blair was in a pop group."

Eddie said: "It's certainly a possibility which I will be discussing with Laud Hope.

"If the job's right and the money's right then you never know, I might win a lot of votes."

And he said it could be what his marriage needs.

"Jane will be happy if I'm busy, keeping out of her way and earning money," he said.
