York and District IBC won the Yorkshire League title for the third time in four years last weekend, with an impressive victory over Barnsley Metrodome Club at Scarborough.

There was a spectacular climax as Iain Boyle's rink scored an eight on the last end, following the skip's stunning take out shot, to claim the crown.

York started strongly and by five ends led 26-12, largely due to the rink of Dudley Williams, Phil Parsons, John Emmerson and skip Boyle.

After ten ends York's lead had increased to 23 shots with Boyle's rink progressing well and the rinks of Doug Mitchell, Mike Bruce, Dave Hewick and skip Mick Parker opening up a 14-7 lead.

The rink of Graham Instone, Graham Brooke, Gordon Smith and skip David Stroughair were also leading 13-6.

However, by 15 ends Barnsley had recovered ground with the scored standing at 64-53 and after 16 ends of play York's lead had been reduced to just six shots.

York hung in there and on the 17th and 18th ends each York rink picked up scores, two of the rinks scoring sixes, to see York's lead restored to 16 shots.

The rink of Fred Clayden, Mal Harrison, Stuart Bryan and skip Paul Mooring had reduced their deficit to three shots at 18 ends.

York then took total control game Iain Boyle removing the only Barnsley wood left on the green to claim a maximum eight on the last end to win 29-20.

The highest winning rink was that of Parker, who rink won 30-12. The rink of Stroughair eventually won 21-17 and Moorings' rink went down 18-25 giving York an 89-74 win.

The York and District IBC Ladies and Gents Knock-out Triples finals, which was sponsored by Beamish, took on similar patterns, seeing run away victories for both successful teams.

In the Ladies final Michelle Mooring, Joyce Chellin and skip Melanie Brooke started well and after ten ends of play led 17 shots to two against their opponents, Maureen Walker, Pat Wilson and skip Trish Harrison.

Only six more ends were played before the match was conceded at 25-4.

In the Men's final Peter Littlewood, John Emmerson and skip Ian Daines started well against Russ Barton, Dave Hewick and skip Stuart Bryan and after six ends Daines' rink led 11-0.

The next four ends were won by Bryan's triple to take the score to 11-4.

However, a four on the 11th end to Daines' rink restored their 11 shot lead and the game was again conceded with the final score 18-6.
