Sweet harmony filled the air when barbershop singers from North and West Yorkshire got together in York for a birthday bash.

About 100 singers gathered at the social club, in Main Street, Bishopthorpe, for an evening of fun, which coincided with the fourth anniversary of their hosts, York-based barbershop chorus Harmony Days.

At the event were members of Abbey Belles, from Selby, Spirit of Harmony, from Barwick-in-Elmet, Pennine Chimes, from Bradford, and men's quartets Chordite and Quadrophonics, both from the York area.

Friends and relatives also went along to enjoy the evening.

Jean Young, chairman of Harmony Days, said: "We get so much support and encouragement from each other. There's always a real feelgood factor when we get together. We only have to open our mouths and sing to have a good time."
