VETERANS of the "forgotten" war in Korea marked the 50th anniversary of one of its bloodiest battles in York this weekend.

Members of the York branch of the British Korean Veterans' Association were joined by other local veterans for a service at All Saints' Church, Pavement, to commemorate the Battle of Imjin River, where more than 1,000 British soldiers were killed, wounded or captured.

The service was led by Services chaplain David Porter.

"This is always a very proud day for us," said Victor Geesing, chairman of the York branch.

"There may be fewer of us each time we meet, but it is a proud day and good to get together and see each other."
