Tribes 2 is the latest first person shooter, but with a couple of extra touches to set it apart from the rest.
Boasting an excellent tutorial, the main game itself is best to play in multiplayer mode but, unlike most other FPS games, you will find Tribes 2 is much more team-based.
Even some of the weapons are geared towards promoting team play, such as the missile weapon which requires one person to use the laser sight on a required target while another player then fires a missile at the target for devastating effect. All the usual styles of play are here, such as deathmatch and capture the flag, but there are a few newer styles such as bounty, which is similar to deathmatch but you can only kill your assigned target or get penalised.
The use of land and air vehicles to cover the vast maps is a nice touch, as are the jet packs attached to your character to help you move across the terrain. The graphics are impressive, with some great detail on these immense maps.
Overall, this is for the more team-oriented gamer and you will need a high-spec PC and preferably a broad-band Internet connection due to the large maps and the maximum number of 64 players. But if you meet all these requirements, you will have one amazing game on your hands.
