Pickering snooker professional Paul Davison was today starting his quest to qualify for an appearance in York in December in the final stages of the UK Championship.
The first qualifying round for the championship was being played today in Newport, south Wales. There are four qualifying rounds to be played in the next week.
The televised stages of the UK Championship are being staged at the Barbican leisure centre, York, from December 8 to 16, the first time York has staged a world ranking snooker event.
The qualifying rounds for several major tournaments are being played in Newport over the next week.
In the British Open Championship first qualifying round played yesterday Davison, who represents Filey Snooker Centre where he works, was whitewashed 5-0 by Robert Hull, from Finland.
