THE 50th birthday celebrations of 30th York Heworth Brownies saw a special award presented to their founder.

The celebrations, held at Heworth Church Hall, Melrosegate, included the meeting of old and new Brownies of the brigade from over the years, with the present Brownies presenting the older ones with bouquets of flowers.

The highlight of the celebrations was the award of recognition given to Ann Bawes, who started the pack 50 years ago and continues to run it.

Mrs Bawes was presented with a silver white rose by County Commissioner, Anne Slade.

After the presentations a party continued into the evening.

Myra Puckrin, organiser of the celebrations, said: "A good time was had by everyone, it was a very enjoyable afternoon and evening, one that will be remembered by all who attended for some time."
