PUNK pioneers specialising in trashy, primal rock'n'roll, The Cramps coined the term "psychobilly" to describe their horror-comic-inspired sound and look back in 1976.
Now, still led by singer Lux Interior and guitarist Poison Ivy, they have arisen from the crypt for the first time in five years. Like contemporaries The Ramones or AC/DC, they see no reason to tamper with their cartoon rock formula. Ivy belts out cast-iron rock'n'roll riffs, while Lux Interior howls like Elvis risen from the grave and chased around Gracelands by the hounds of hell, to a thunderous rockabilly drumbeat. Song titles such as Big Black Witchcraft Rock pretty much tell you everything you need to know about the triumphantly raucous contents. It's time for The Cramps to work their voodoo on a new generation.
