ABOUT 200 hundred pupils took part in a vigil at a York school following the start of the war.
Teacher Ann Finch said the theme of the vigil in the main hall at Fulford School was solidarity and sorrow with the people of Iraq.
But she said pupils, who ranged in age from 11 to 18, were also thinking about the Armed Forces as well.
The vigil, which also involved many teachers, was organised by the school's Amnesty International group, run by Mrs Finch.
"It went very well," she said.
"I was very pleased with the turn-out."
She said candles were lit and banners created, and an Amnesty International statement about human rights violations in Iraq was read out.
