Brendan Powell, whose dual-purpose team is in good form, has called on the services of champion jockey Kieren Fallon at Lingfield tomorrow.

Powell, whose successful riding career over jumps included a Scottish Grand National success on the Peter Beaumont-trained Young Kenny, is now in his fourth season as a trainer in Hampshire and has enlarged his string to some fifty horses.

Successful with Our Kev over fences at Musselburgh on Sunday, Powell bids for Flat prizes at Lingfield and has booked Fallon to partner my Nap selection Zalkani in the Bet Direct Handicap.

The promising four-year-old was a beaten favourite on this course last time, finishing third to Coronado Forest, after being unsuited by the muddling early gallop and being left with plenty of ground to make up in the latter stages.

Zalkani deserves another chance to fulfil his promise and, with Fallon on board, Powell could have further reason to celebrate another winner.

Sungio gives Powell, who won the Grand National on Rhyme 'N Reason, the chance of an earlier success in the Bet Direct Claiming Stakes.

Dale Gibson travels down from his Boston Spa base to take the mount on the six-year-old, a winner on this track three weeks ago.

Gibson will also team-up with the Richard Fahey-trained Turn Of Phrase in the Bet Direct Interactive Handicap.

The five-yer-old is, perhaps, better known over hurdles, but he is a winner on the Flat and, with Fahey's horses in such excellent form, it would be unwise to underestimate the chances of Turn Of Phrase, especially with him making such a long journey from Malton.

Also worth noting at Lingfield are Kinsman (12.50), a previous course-and-distance winner, and the admirably consistent Whippasnapper (3.05).

Mud-lovers will be in their element over the sticks at Carlisle, where heavy ground is forecast.

Carapuce gets my vote to oblige for Len Lungo and Tony Dobbin in the 'Be My Valentine' Novices' Hurdle.

Twice a winner this season, Carapuce finished a creditable third in handicap company at Bangor on his latest start in December.

Significantly, the five-year-old runs here instead off stablemate Paddy The Piper, a highly-rated recent winner, who had looked to have an outstanding chance.

Cumbrian-based Dobbin, riding on his local course, can also score on Cordilla in the 'Will You Marry Me' Handicap Hurdle.

The Nicky Richards-trained gelding coped well with testing conditions at Ayr last time when running out a convincing winner of a novices' event.

The consistent Countess Camilla can continue her successful season by gaining a third success for trainer Kim Bailey in the EBF/Crandon Park Stud Mares' Only 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle (Qualifier). JP McNamara has the mount.
