A COUNCILLOR who has committed no crime nor deceived the electorate faces dismissal ('Porn shame of parish councillor", March 10), while there are councillors nationwide who hang on to their posts despite criminal convictions, shady dealings in office and deceiving the electorate.

The Clifton Without Parish Council chair claims councillors "could not condone pornographic activity within the council body".

What other legal activities, conducted in people's own time, are they going to condemn?

The acting head of legal services claims councillors should not conduct themselves in a manner "which could reasonably be regarded as bringing their office or authority into disrepute".

Meanwhile, there are plenty of other councillors who have brought their office into disrepute with their policies on Coppergate II and countless more wastes of taxpayers' money.

The council itself is already in disrepute because it is incapable of repairing roads properly; incapable of clearing drains adequately; and only clears bridle ways when a former Lord Mayor walks along them, and generally delivers bad service for all the money we pay them.

...IF Clifton Without Parish Council had decided to sack Coun Christine Cranfield for "bringing the authority into disrepute" on moral grounds over her website appearances as Angelique, where does it stop?

Should Women's Institute members be banned for their nude calendars? Or is morality just a not-for-profit issue?
