A POSTWOMAN in Greater Manchester was dismissed last month for not wearing a cycle helmet.
I highlighted errors in the Department of Transport report on cycle helmets and they agreed to correct such mistakes. MPs this year did not support a private members bill to introduce helmets for children under age 16 years, as it would have done more harm than good.
Royal Mail have admitted even safety experts have divided opinions on cycle helmets and misleading and sexed-up information was circulated to postal workers promoting helmets.
The website www.cyclehelmets.org has information on helmets and refers to postal workers.
My own report "Bicycle helmets and accident involvement" shows how safety can actually be reduced by wearing helmets.
Royal Mail have not disclosed to their workforce the evidence showing cycle helmets may not provide a benefit. They have only provided information that promotes helmets.
