Holy Trinity, Goodramgate

One church that relies a lot on donations from summer visitors is Holy Trinity Church just off Goodramgate.
It stands in a quiet churchyard screened from the street by Lady Row, a row of houses said to be among the oldest in England.
A small entrance, built in 1766, of rosy brick and with gates made in the same year as the Battle of Waterloo, leads to the 15th century church, which has a quiet unspoiled 18th century interior.
Its high sided, draught-proof box pews and stained glass window add much to the charm of the church.
A church on the site was mentioned in charters of 1082 and 1092 as part of the foundation grant of Durham Cathedral Priory.
There will be two services on Trinity Sunday, and one during advent. Ring for details of other events.

Open: April 1-September 30, Mon-Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 12-5pm, also Bank Holiday Monday. October 1-March 31, Tue-Sat 10am-4pm. Check notice board on gates for details. As there is no lighting the church may have to shut earlier on dark days.
Admission: Free, but donations welcome.
Disabled access: Limited wheelchair access. Ramps are available.
