Jenny Alexander, assistant curator of fine art at York Art Gallery, views the only surviving copy of the original manuscript of the York Mystery Plays, which has gone on show.

The 15th Century document has been loaned to the gallery by the British Library and forms part of an exhibition on the world-famous plays, which return to York this summer. Jenny said: “The manuscript is a remarkable document – unique and in fantastic condition considering it is more than 500 years old.

“We are delighted that it is briefly returning to York, as the plays are re-enacted around the city.”

The manuscript will be on display at the gallery until August 5.
