TRIBUTES have been paid to a York City FC fan and advisor for a national charity, after he died aged 36.

Jonathan Dibb died suddenly at his parents’ Wilberfoss home on March 22.

Jonathan went to school in Pocklington after his family moved to the town in 1979.

Subsequently, his parents Alan and Julia moved the family, including older sister, Jen, to Wilberfoss in 1987.

After completing a degree in Social and Economic History at Liverpool University, Jonathan moved to London in 1996. Even though he lived in London he always regarded York, and particularly Wilberfoss, as his home,” said Jen.

“He came back frequently and spent hours cycling and running around Wilberfoss.”

Jonathan was a York City fan, and would attend a match whenever he could.

“He had huge pride and satisfaction seeing York play at Wembley last year,” said Jen.

“He took along his nephew William, and even though the result wasn’t as they had hoped for, he was thrilled to see his team take to the most sacred of pitches.”

Jonathan married his wife Jenny in 2002 after they met in London, and she would often accompany him to York.

From 2007, he worked as a welfare rights advisor with the National Autistic Society. In this role he helped families throughout the country gain access to benefits and allowances they were entitled to.

“Jonathan loved his work, and got huge amounts of satisfaction from it,” said Jen. “He took it upon himself to learn a lot about autism for the role and really made it his own.”

Jonathan’s sister said he enjoyed the time he spent with his mum and dad and his wife Jenny, and doted on his niece Holly and nephew William.

“I miss his caring and generous nature, as will all the family and all those who knew him,” said Jen.

A funeral service will take place this afternoon at St John the Baptist Church, Wilberfoss.
