THESE CCTV images show the moment a knife-wielding raider targeted a York car park attendant in his quest for cash.
Detectives investigating the robbery at the Tanner Row car park in the centre of the city on Friday morning have released the footage as they continue their hunt for the armed man, who punched his victim in the face before escaping with the stolen money.
They show the criminal – who is still being hunted by police – both inside the building and making his exit carrying a black Nike rucksack, which he also snatched from the NCP facility and used to carry the cash he took.
The robbery happened at about 6am when the raider entered the car park’s staff room and threatened the 43-year-old attendant with a small kitchen-type knife, before unleashing the punch.
His victim, who is from York, was left shaken, but did not need hospital treatment.
The robber is white, about 6ft tall, with a stocky build, and was wearing a black jacket, black jeans and black shoes, as well as a balaclava and gloves, which were also black.
Detective Constable Lee Boyeson, of York CID, said the ordeal had left the attendant “shocked and upset”, saying: “We’ve had a team of detectives and crime scene investigators at the car and have been examining CCTV footage.
“I am appealing for anybody who was near the car park at the time of the incident to think back and see if they remember anybody acting suspiciously.
“It was quite early in the morning, but people could have been on their way to work or on their way home from a night shift and could have seen something which will help the investigation.”
