Hammer vandals target Green Lane Fish Bar, in Acomb

THE owners of a York fish and chip shop are offering a £1,000 reward to help catch hammer-wielding vandals who targeted their premises and left a trail of costly damage.

Lyn Barton and her partner Stuart Brown, of Green Lane Fish Bar, in Acomb, are hoping the public will help them find the two yobs who smashed all the windows of their shop in the early hours of last Thursday.

The couple said the same two teenagers had targeted the shop earlier in the week and smashed one window. But the couple say the latest attack will cost them in the region of £2,000.

Lyn, 33 and Stewart, 43, captured the vandals on CCTV and hope that police together with local residents will help find the teenagers and stop them before they cause further damage.

Lyn said: “In the early hours of Monday morning, one window got put through and we got that replaced straight away. Then, in the early hours of Thursday morning – at about the same time, 1am – every window got put though – all five big windows.

“We don’t know who they are but we have got them on CCTV and it is two teenage lads.

“You can tell it’s the same lads both time and they had the same clothes and same shoes on.

“The second time they were both armed with hammers which they used to break the glass.

“We are offering this £1,000 reward because we don’t know why they are doing it, who they are or why they are targeting us. But we want to find the answer and stop it happening again.

“We are just sitting up to all hours on tenterhooks, wondering if they will come again.

“Please, somebody come forward and give their names or go to the police. We want it to stop. We want to know who it is and why it is happening.

“To be targeted in the same week by the same lads, we feel victimised.”

Anyone with any information should phone North Yorkshire police on 0845 60 60 247. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.

This fish and chip shop is the best. The food and polite, friendly service is great. It's a shame this has happened by those two mindless yobs. Hope they get found and arrested soon.

They are being targeted because they work hard and provide a service - these yobs wouldn't know hard work if it bit them on the backside.

I hope the mindless little beggars get caught too. It might also be worth a word in their parents ears as to why these "teenagers" were still out and about at that time in the morning. I'd also make their parents pay for the damage - but as always, this will never happen. Good luck to the owners as it sounds like they have a very popular business.

They will probably be told they are very naughty boys and don't do it again by our wonderful justice system.

What with people shooting people with air pistols as well yesterday (and no mention in the Press - hmm).

Boil them in oil. The little scrotes should be made to pay back for every penny of the damage by selling their X boxes and flat screen TV's, and then put their pictures up everywhere so we know who they are.

I was brought up on Gladstone St. Brought up to not be a boil on the backside of society - unlike the losers who did this.

Its a shame-because the best value and biggest bags of chips for a quid are sold here-and the staff are really friendly. Hope somebody finds the culprits and gives them a hammering!

Makes me angry when yobs do this, no doubt if they are caught the law will be on their side and they will get a lenient sentence. Yobs justarent scared of the Police or the Law.

It is a good fish and chip shop too I go there more now since Foxwood Fisheries has gone downhill. They offer good value and I hope the business doesnt suffer.
