5,000 people have say on Blossom Street junction plan in York

TIME is running out for York residents wanting a say on how improvements could be made to a major junction in the city.

More than 5,000 questionnaires about the scheme to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and road users in Blossom Street and Queen Street have already been completed online and by post.

The consultation follows the results of a survey last year, which showed that people felt this junction was one of the most dangerous in the city for cyclists. In addition to the options listed in the consultation, the council is also working to develop a new route from Holgate Road, into York Railway Station and beyond, via Lowther Terrace and the station car park.

This would provide cyclists and pedestrians with an alternative means of getting to the station, without having to use Blossom Street. For further information and to fill in the questionnaire, log on to york.gov.uk/blossomstreet. Responses must be returned by March 26.

5000 people will be ignored as they are in any CofYC survey. So cyclists, some of whom have no knowledge of the Highway Code, use the pavement anyway, and run people down then ride off like nothing happened will be 'safer'. Pity about the rest of us. At least they caught the one in London who killed a tourist, it's just a pity they can't hang him with his own brake cable after all he didn't use it so it should get a least one use!

Does it really matter what the people of York say? The council has a reputataion of doing what it pleases and a decision (Just like Yorks Congestion Charges) is certain to have already been made behind closed doors. They only enter into these public consultations to try & pacify the people of York. Why don't they just save the taxpayers the 'consultation fees' and just get on and do it. They are going to anyway!
