Storyteller Ben Haggarty will be in York next month to kick-start a new initiative

Explore Story is a six-month programme organised by City of York Council’s Library Service to encourage more adults to read.

Haggarty’s series of performances at Acomb Explore Library Learning Centre on Friday, April 9, will be about the quest for knowledge and the trials and tribulations faced along the way.

Other renowned names performing will include Hugh Lupton, Shonaleigh, Jo Blake, Tim Ralphs and Simon Heywood.

The show starts at 7.30pm and is suitable for anybody aged 12 or above. Tickets cost £7.50, including a glass of wine, and are available from Acomb Explore Learning Centre or by phoning 01904 552651.

Coun Nigel Ayre, City of York Council’s executive member for leisure, culture and social inclusion, said: “Having such a successful performer supporting the Explore Story programme is a great boost for the event.

“Hopefully people who come to the event to see Ben Haggarty will be inspired to find out more about the art of storytelling.”

We would if the library was open - apparently it is put back due to problems with the roof. Wouldn't you have checked that first before fitting out the inside! Due diligence, not a phrase understood at CofYC is it?

a) this is happening at Acomb, which is as far as I know open?

b) what do you know about the central library that nobody else does?

It pays to know what is going on (or not) in business, finance and government. Information is collatoral especially in a recession. It also pays to post negative comments, flushing out the information you were looking for as people strive to deny or repudiate. Moaning is profitable!
