FUNDRAISERS across York are pulling together to raise money for Sport Relief this weekend.
Students and teachers at Canon Lee School held a tug of war to raise funds for the charity.
PE teacher Rob Orr said: “There’s been a lot of banter between students and staff for the last few weeks.”
Male staff beat Year 11 boys, while Year 11 girls defeated female staff.
They raised £130, but are expecting more money to come in Also this weekend, the City of York Athletic Club has set up a one-mile run at Rawcliffe Bar Country Park.
Club development officer Paula Bird said tickets to take part in the run sold out so quickly, that a second run was added to the event, which also sold out last week.
“The tickets sold so well that we spoke to Sport Relief and arranged for a third one-mile run to take place in the afternoon,” she said.
“That run will only be open to people who want to enter on the day, so we’d recommend getting here early and registering with time to get your ticket and have a warm-up.”
The event starts on Sunday at 10.30am, with the first run setting off at 11.30am.
At York’s David Lloyd leisure centre, swimming instructor Amy Pressland will be swimming 25 kilometres to raise £1,000 for Sport Relief.
She said: “I always try a sporting challenge for my birthday. Last year I swam 240 lengths. This year, my birthday falls around Sport Relief, so I’m raising money for a good cause while I’m at it.” Amy hopes to swim 1,000 lengths of the 25m pool.
