Fulford residents’ object to Harlington House care home plan

PLANS to build a care home for the elderly in York have been met by objections from residents and councillors.

A public meeting has now been called to discuss the plans to construct a two-storey residential care home to the rear of Harlington House, off Main Street, Fulford.

The meeting has been called by Fulford councillor Keith Aspden.

He said: “A number of residents have concerns about the development, especially in terms of the effect the new building will have on nearby houses. Residents have concerns about extra traffic this development would generate and about the effect the development will have on surface water drainage.

“I believe this application would be an overdevelopment of the particular locality and would have a negative impact on Fulford conservation area so I have written to City of York Council to formally reject the plans.”

He said the level of concern from local residents meant he felt it was important for the application to be considered at a public planning committee.

The NIMBY's of Fulford are at it again - won't they ever grow old?

Does anyone in Fulford ever agree to any projects? Not really interested in whether this one gets through or not. But everytime something is proposed in Fulford everyone there it seems doesn't want anything ever to change.

Perhaps if existing residents allow themselves to become less car dependant, there will be more highay capacity for those of their new neighbours who need to drive if eg mobility restricted, or to receive associated car-borne services and deliveries.

Cllr Aspden may well l be old ometime and he should remember that York is desperately short of this kind of provision.

What an absolutely ridiculous statement Mr Hepworth. One of the residents concerns is an increase in traffic ; so you suggest that the residents of Fulford should stop driving to offset the increase !!! By the same token may I suggest that all York cyclists stop cycling so we can get rid of all these cycle lanes and free up the road for cars .

I'm glad you agree Mr Hepworth's statement is ridiculous. Read my post again and perhaps you can see the satire.
