City of York Council to open birth register offices in the community

NEW mums may soon be able to pop down the road to register the birth of their child thanks to the launch of an innovative service.

City of York Council said it is one of the first local authorities in the country to open birth register offices in the community.

The council said parents can now register their babies at three Sure Start Children’s Centres in Hob Moor on Wednesdays, Tang Hall on Thursdays and New Earswick on Mondays.

A fourth centre is set to open in the Knavesmire area this spring.

Rob Livesey, City of York Council’s Registration Services manager, said: “The service is very well used – especially the Hob Moor Children’s Centre.”

Appointments can be made by phoning the Bootham Register Office on 01904 654477.

So many teenage pregnancies the register office can't cope.

Hardly an innovation!
Years ago, there was a Registrar in the Maternity Hospital in Fulford!

More and more teenagers, unmarried of course, delivering babies of course! When will our society stop giving these unmarried teenager girls benefits? The only answer to this this issue.

I think this is a really good idea. The register office is hardly the easiest place to get to, or in and out of, with a newborn baby.

Some very strange and ill-informed comments above. Mark and Naomi ARE married, have their own house and both are in full-time and gainful employment. At this time, their lives are full of hope and joy. Perhaps some of you neerdowells might reflect upon your bitter and twisted thoughts and take a long hard look in your mirror. Nasty s0ds.
