POLICE are investigating a series of burglaries in East Yorkshire after criminals drilled holes in house windows to gain entry.
The crooks have targeted expensive electrical items, such as computers and televisions.
The offences happened in the Pocklington area and local police are now stepping up patrols.
Sergeant Peter Rogers of the Pocklington and Wolds Weighton team said burglary was “one of the most emotive and distressing offences” that could be committed.
In an update on Humberside Police’s website, he said: “Unfortunately this last month has seen several offences of domestic burglary on the western side of our area where expensive electrical items such as laptop computers and LCD televisions have been taken.”
He said the burglaries had been committed in the early hours of the morning and were similar to others in the East Riding.
Meanwhile, patrols are also to be stepped up elsewhere in East Yorkshire, following various complaints of antisocial behaviour.
Although serious crime remains low in the region, police have highlighted a series of concerns.
In Goodmanham, near Market Weighton, it is claimed that missiles were thrown at a passing car by yobs.
Humberside Police say there have been reports of youngsters gathering around Red Lane Bridge in the village, near Market Weighton.
Evening patrols are to be stepped up and police say they will impose £80 fixed penalty notices where appropriate.
In Market Weighton itself, police are investigating criminal damage to the community centre in the Aspen Close area.
In Pocklington, police are to step up patrols around the Victoria Road play park in Pocklington, following evidence of troublesome youngsters gathering and causing nuisance in the evenings.
Evening patrols are also to be increased near the Total Garage in George Street, following complaints about youths smoking and using mobile phones around the forecourt.
In Stamford Bridge meanwhile, police say there have been many complaints about parking problems in The Square. Tickets are to be issued to try to combat the problems.
