A SHOPKEEPER has been cautioned after selling a knife to a 14-year-old boy in York.
The sale was made during a trading standards operation to check whether retailers were breaking the law on a range of age-restricted items.
A City of York Council spokeswoman said the caution was issued under the Criminal Justice Act 1988, but would not name the shop.
The incident was revealed in a report to Ann Reid, the council’s executive member for neighbourhood services.
It also details other prosecutions and fines issued by the department in 2009, which included 12 fines of £50 each for dog-owners not cleaning up their pets’ mess, and one person fined £250 for breaching a noise abatement order.
