BHS outlets to remain in York

RETAILER BHS has said there are no plans to close its shops in York following the announcement that its Harrogate store will shut in May.

The Cambridge Street store is one of ten around the country which has been earmarked to close after the leases were sold to the Primark chain.

A spokesman for BHS said the Monks Cross and Coney Street outlets would be unaffected by the move.

He said: “The store staff were told of their store closure in mid-January, and are now in a consultation process with the relevant head office teams who will discuss their options and work closely with Arcadia brands and other retailers in the local area to support individuals to find alternative employment.”
