DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after two men were attacked in York city centre.
One man suffered a broken jaw and the other sustained a broken cheekbone in the assault, which happened in North Street, near the junction with Tanner Row at about 12.55am on Sunday. One of the victims was 21 and the other 24.
North Yorkshire Police said both men were treated at York Hospital and discharged.
Detectives would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the assault or anyone who was in the area around the time of the attack.
DC Matt Dodson, of York CID, said: “This was a particularly nasty incident, which is rare for a safe place like York.
“The two victims suffered painful injuries in the assault and I am appealing for any witnesses to get in touch with the police or Crimestoppers immediately.
“The incident took place when a lot of people will have been on nights out, therefore there is a good chance someone may have seen the assault take place.”
He said people leaving Flares bar in Tanner Row at the time of the incident might have information vital to the investigation.
Anyone with any information that could help police with the investigation should phone DC Dodson on 0845 6060 247.
Alternatively, phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A 19-year-old man from York who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released on police bail as inquiries continue.
