Blackwell & Denton to put classic vacuum cleaners up for sale

A DOMESTIC appliance shop is dusting off some classic vacuum cleaners for a unique sale.

Blackwell & Denton, in Colliergate, York, is selling off the old cleaning devices to make space for a refurbishment at the store.

Chris Watson, 39, managing director at Blackwell & Denton, said the collection has been on display to customers and features a Croydon model which was in use before the Second World War.

Mr Watson said: “I am open to any offers that come in for them from anybody who is willing to give them a good home.”

The vacuum cleaners are still in good working order and have stood the test of time, due to them being made of metal rather than modern- day plastic.

Any unsold vacuum cleaners will be donated to a showroom in Bristol.

If you are interested in buying one of the cleaners, phone Mr Watson on 01904 659066.

I wouldn't sell my old cleaner for all the tea in China! Mrs Turnoff is priceless.

Perhaps someone could take them out on to the A59 as you drive from York to Harrogate. I drove along this road last week and it's a disgrace. I have never seen so much litter on the verges. Whilst I realise you cannot blame to council for this litter being there in the first place as it's the morons who throw it from vehicles. They could however clean it up. I thought North Yorkshire was supposed to be attractive - well this part of it isn't.

Dyson's are flimsy. The hoses split easily and bits fall off them. Henry;'s are the best IMO.

The finest vacuum cleaner:
A Hoover 'Constellation', that floated like a hovercraft. My Mothers' is still working after 50 years.
I'd swap my 'Vax' for one.......

Reminds of the bloke who was selling vacuums. Woman answers door and he immediately empties a bin of dog poo in the hall - woman looks horrified. Bloke says 'don't worry madam, this cleaner is so good that if it doesn't clear every bit, I'll eat the rest.'
The woman says ' well I hope you're hungry cos they turned my electric off this morning!'
