North Yorkshire Police praised as performance report cards are revealed

POLICE in North Yorkshire have been praised by a watchdog as report cards of forces’ performance are revealed for the first time.

The findings from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) show North Yorkshire Police is succeeding in keeping levels of robbery, vehicle crime and criminal damage low and has improved how it deals with major crime investigations.

The force was rated “excellent” for crime reduction and public perception of antisocial behaviour, and “fair” for local policing, protecting people from harm and confidence and satisfaction in its operation.

The report also shows council taxpayers annually contribute 39.1 per cent towards North Yorkshire policing costs – £199.20 for a Band D property, more than similar force areas.

Chief Constable Grahame Maxwell said: “While we welcome this report, we know the areas in which we have to improve.

“North Yorkshire and York is one of the safest policing areas in the country. It is not an accident North Yorkshire is that way – it is down to the hard work of all officers and staff, partner agencies and communities.”

North Yorkshire Police Authority chairman Jane Kenyon said: “Successes have been and are being delivered and, as representatives of communities, the authority will continue to monitor developments and seek reassurances these areas are being improved.”

The report card will be available at mypolice.org.uk from Saturday.

I do not think Mr Peter Lawrence will agree after their keystone cops efforts to find his daughter. Oh look we have a photo of a hooded male lets keep it for a year and surprise everybody. Good thinking Ray and then we can back go to Cyprus again to find him.
